CLFP v. Bonta: Court Cancels the November 4 Conference and Sets a December 15 Status Conference

On October 23, 2026 the magistrate judge in California League of Food Producers v. Bonta, the SB 343 recyclability labeling case, granted in part the parties’ joint motion to continue (ECF 37). The order vacated the early neutral evaluation and case management conference set by the September 23 order (ECF 33), continued the hearing on the plaintiffs’ motion to add claims against SB 54 (ECF 35), set responses for November 2 and replies for November 9, and set a status conference for December 15, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. Nothing on the free docket changes the July 14 preliminary injunction against Attorney General enforcement of SB 343.

What this means for you: Nothing changes for your labels or your 2027 fee planning yet. Whether SB 54 claims join the case waits on the court’s ruling on that motion, which was set without oral argument unless the court asks for it, and the docket text does not give a new hearing date.
